MAKE HISTORY AT THE BRAND-NEW RAINBOW ROOTS FESTIVAL
LAKELAND, Fla. — The Rose Dynasty Foundation is partnering with Pineapple Healthcare to launch the Rainbow Roots Festival, a celebration of queer art and history.
The Rainbow Roots Festival will kick off on Sunday, October 12, at the Lake Mirror Auditorium from noon to 6 p.m. This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages.
Attendees can park at the Lake Mirror Auditorium, Barnett Park or in public parking areas in the surrounding area.
The Rainbow Roots Festival is proud to announce that attendees will have the opportunity to purchase merchandise, specialty goods and art from over 30 vendors and local businesses, the majority of whom are queer.
There will also be an art area for families to express themselves.
Concessions and sweet treats will be available; Bad Dog BBQ will be selling entrees at the event.
The event will feature a variety of family-friendly performances throughout the day.
The Rose Dynasty Foundation is taking security measures to ensure that the Rainbow Roots Festival is accessible and safe for all attendees.
“I think right now more than ever is the time to come together and celebrate how deep the roots of queer art and history run,” said Executive Director Jason Deshazo.
The Rose Dynasty Foundation aimed to create an event celebrating queer history and art because they are an essential component of Pride, said Deshazo.
“We chose October for this event because it is LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day.”
On Friday, October 10, the Rose Dynasty Foundation is partnering with the First United Methodist Church and the Interfaith Coalition of Polk County to sponsor a screening of the documentary “1946” at the Sirrhosis Building. The screening will start at 6:30 p.m.
The next day at the Rose Dynasty Center is Forever Fierce, an adult drag show by Kathryn Nevets that celebrates drag performers over the age of 40 who paved the way for greater acceptance. The show starts at 8 p.m., and the entry fee is $8.
For more information about Rainbow Roots, the “1946” screening or Forever Fierce, attendees can visit the Rose Dynasty Foundation’s website or follow them on social media.
Other sponsors include: Hornet Design, Destroyer Media & Marketing, the Tampa Bay Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Equality Florida, Goatie Media, Black Swan Counseling Services LLC, Dee and Robert Jackson, Rose Dynasty Queer and Trans Recovery, Christ the King Episcopal Church, the Interfaith Coalition of Polk County, the Imperial Sun Court of All Florida, Art Crawl and Lakeland Punk Rock Flea Market.
